    5204 - Tai Chi for Arthritis (55yr+)

    A falls prevention program to assist older adults to reduce their pain, stiffness, decreased range of motion, balance concerns associated with arthritis, and to promote fun, social means of increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Focus on weight transference, imagining resistance, slow-non-stop movement, upright posture, loosening the joints, and focusing on movement (being in the present, concentrating on breathing from diaphragm to promote calm and peace.)

    A seated exercise class-perfect for all ability levels! This class will help to build stamina and muscle strength through exercises done while sitting in a chair. You’ll work on improving your range of motion, joint health and cardio respiratory circulation while exercising to contemporary, easy listening music. This class is taught in a “go at your own pace” setting and is appropriate for individuals with chronic pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, mobility limitations, etc. Insurance discounts may be available-check with your insurance provider. Sign up for 1 day for $50 or 2 for $65. Save $35 when registering for both Tuesday and Thursday. Discount will automatically be applied.

    Irondequoit Striders (50+)
    Are you looking to get out, go for a walk and enjoy some fresh air, but don’t want to do it alone? Now you don’t have to! Join our walking club! We walk on Thursday mornings from 10:30 to approximately 11:30am or try our evening session from 5:30pm – 6:30pm. We’ll walk a different path and end with a relaxing stretch exercise. We will enjoy a social at the end of our 8-week session, so you can continue your walking journey with the new friends you have made! Each “Strider” will receive a program T-Shirt. Participants must be able to walk at a brisk pace.

    Expressive Art with Olena (Ages 21+)
    This class is for students of all levels! Students can choose to work on project of their choice by combining stenciling and pouring techniques that they will learn during the course of the class. Students will be coordinating and mixing color choices, using simple swipe technique to create movement on their canvas, and create and produce an original piece of display-ready expressive art.     Intro to American Sign Language
    Are you interested in learning the basics of American Sign Language? This intro will teach you a new way to communicate and about the large community that uses this beautiful language. The instructor Paula Wollenhaupt was born deaf and attended Rochester School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University (a college for the deaf and hard-of-hearing). She was an educator at RIT for deaf students for 20 years. She will bring the fun and demonstrate the passion this language has to offer! Don’t miss out on this program!

    Do you enjoying getting out to play golf with friends or hoping to join a welcoming league? We have just what you are looking for! This friendly league plays a 20-week season, each week we play 9 holes, and will have your stats available. We play at Shore Acres, located at 1165 Greenleaf Road. The first pair will tee off at 8:30 am and then tee times will start in approximately 7 minutes intervals after that. Fee includes registration and all greens fees. All levels of players are welcome! Need a partner? Give us a call and we’ll try to help pair you up with someone. Can’t commit to all 20 weeks, but still want to play? We keep a sub list; give us a call for more information: 336-6077
    Once registered, please join us for our pre-season ice cream social on April 17th at 2pm at the Senior/Community Center, 154 Pinegrove Ave. Rules and league details will be reviewed at this event.
