Summer Day Camp Registration is open for Residents and begins for Non-Residents on Thursday, May 3rd. Playground Program Registration begins Wed., April 18th. Registration for all other Summer 2018 programs begins Thursday, May 3rd for Residents and Tues., May 8th for Non-Residents.

Register early and often so your programs do not get cancelled! Programs that have not met their minimum may be cancelled one week prior to the program start date.

    NEW! Intro to Whitewater Kayaking (Ages 16 and Up )
    Have you ever dreamed of experiencing the thrill of paddling your own kayak down a river’s rapid, feeling the adrenaline as the waves splash all around? If yes, let our instructors at Lock 32 introduce you to the world of whitewater kayaking. You will first start on flat water, learning all the necessary skills to advance to our whitewater course. When you advance, you will experience the thrill and excitement of navigating your kayak through Lock 32’s fun and challenging rapids. All while learning on New York's most exciting man-made whitewater park. No kayaking experience needed, all necessary equipment is included, but feel free to bring your own whitewater boat and equipment.

    5055 - Intro Flatwater Kayaking

    NEW! Intro to Flatwater Kayaking (Ages 16 and Up)
    Flatwater kayaks are amazing boats, they well-suited to exploring everything from calm lakes and rivers to remote coastlines. Our course is designed for both the casual paddler and people who are interested in kayak touring. Lock 32 instructors will introduce you to proper technique and safety skills required for you to enjoy your future kayaking adventures. This program begins at the Lock 32 Whitewater Park and is held on the adjacent Erie Canal. From there, we will tour a stretch of the Canal and one of the many historic turning basins. Our low (1:5) instructor to student ratio ensures that you will get the personal attention that you deserve. So, let us, at Lock 32, help you build a strong foundation that will begin a lifetime of kayaking adventures. No kayaking experience needed, all necessary equipment is included, but feel free to bring your own flatwater boat and equipment.

    Tai Chi for Arthritis (ages 55+)
    A falls prevention program to assist older adults to reduce their pain, stiffness, decreased range of motion, balance concerns associated with arthritis, and to promote fun, social means of increasing strength, flexibility, and coordination. Focus on weight transference, imagining resistance, slow-non-stop movement, upright posture, lossening the joints, and focusing on movement (being in the present, concentrating on breathing from diaphragm to promote calm and peace.)

    Motion Promotion (Ages 50+)
    A seated exercise class-perfect for all ability levels! This class will help to build stamina and muscle strength through exercises done while sitting in a chair. You’ll work on improving your range of motion, joint health and cardio respiratory circulation while exercising to contemporary, easy listening music. This class is taught in a “go at your own pace” setting and is appropriate for individuals with chronic pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, mobility limitations, etc. Insurance discounts may be available-check with your insurance provider.     This interactive educational workshop will focus on healthy eating, exercise, stress management, communication skills, working with health professionals, sleep habits, and enhancing one’s ability to self-manage their chronic conditions.     Brain Training 1 or 2 (Ages 55+)
    Brain Training 1:
    New discoveries are being made daily of how the brain grows though the adult lifespan. Research has proven that a person with new meaningful experiences will have a healthy brain that grows well beyond their 80’s. Participants will be provided with an explanation and overview of the science supporting the importance of brain fitness, engaging activities of how to improve thinking and explore effective memory strategies. The instructor will include resources for participants to practice a healthy brain lifestyle at home and in the community. Topics covered: Overview/Foundation, Vision, Hearing, Human connection Limitations/Benefits of aging.
    NEW! Brain Training 2:
    Continue to learn grow your brain or start your journey on how to keep your brain young. In this 2nd series, participants will learn about the topics not covered in the 1st series. Participants will be provided with an explanation and over view of the science supporting the importance of brain fitness, engaging activities of how to improve thinking and explore effective memory strategies. Topics covered: Brief Overview/foundation, Touch, Mobility, Taste/Smell and How to learn healthy habits to improve quality of life.
    The instructor, France McCloskey, has an MA in Adult Learning, BA in Cognitive Science/Psychology and is an Adult Educator with RCSD and appointed Adjunct Instructor with MCC, Education and Human Services Department. She will include resources for participants to practice a healthy brain lifestyle at home and in the community.

    Horseshoes: Played on the West Side of the Town Hall Campus on newly upgraded Horseshoes pits! All adult players are welcome. Everyone donates $1.00 and at the end of 8 games prize dollars are awarded to the top three scores in each division!
